Just an FYI for everyone - Mia is not at Daycare today and the Daycare is closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. Her next Journal Post should be on Monday, December 2nd.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone and remember to be Thankful! :)

Mia ate two servings of waffles and ate pears for breakfast. For lunch she ate tuna and crackers, two servings of sweet potatoes, and two servings of oranges.
Riley was using the 'shape' pieces and that was her "cake." She kept saying, "Mia, cake!" until Mia joined her at the table. Then Mia said, "I done!" and handed it back to Riley. As you can see in the picture Cooper was basically the center piece on the table. :)
Nora and Mia were on the floor sitting back-to-back putting on dress-up shoes. Nora said, "Help me Mia!" And Mia tried to hold the shoe so Nora could put her foot inside. Except Mia was a tad impatient and just about the time Nora started putting her foot in, Mia stuck her own hand in there! Silly kids! :)
Mia was watching Jamie try to get Cooper to throw his arms in the air when she said, "Touchdown!" They've been practicing at home and during the Grizzly games. After Jamie left this morning Mia was throwing her arms up in the air and saying, "Touchdown!" She said, "Cooper do that!"
We did some dot painting at art time. The three girls were done and I was letting Cooper continue to experiment with the dot paints a little. I also had an ear toward the daycare room and it was very quiet. They were all "hiding" in the igloo from Cooper; and Riley and Mia were saying, "Hide hide hide" and then running and "hiding" behind the Panda bear too. Cooper, of course, thought the whole thing was hilarious and was running along behind them and everyone was happy! :)
I have this little laptop that I use exclusively for the Food Program. (I get reimbursed a small amount for each meal I serve the children.) The web site monitors our menus and daily attendance. It takes two or three minutes a day to enter the information and I usually do it right before snack time. Yesterday when Mia saw me coming with the laptop she yells, "Food Program!" :)

Mia ate chex cereal and two servings of mixed fruit for breakfast. She was copying what Riley was saying at breakfast; "I done Gary!" Except Mia said it as she was taking another bite. And she ate another serving of fruit after that! :) Silly girl! For lunch she ate roast beef sandwich, two servings of tomato soup, and ate apple slices.
Well I got a new Panda bear this weekend so I had to take a picture of everyone with it. The girls pointed out the Panda bear on the poster too - just to the right of Mia and the bear! As you know, Mia loves Panda bears and she was beside herself with excitement for quite awhile this morning. She'd play with the toys then going racing over to the bear! :)
We did a toy, book, and puzzle exchange this weekend and Mia explored everything. She was trying to put on dress-up clothes and she had both feet stuck in the arm hole of this shirt. She was saying, "Help me Gary!" Quit taking the picture and help me! And I did! :)
Riley was being such a nice friend to Mia this morning. Mia was sitting on her lap and then 'leading' some action songs! (The actions to "Hickity Pickity" were easily recognizable.) Riley was going along with it all and had this cutest amused look on her face. I think she finds Mia quite interesting and entertaining. Sometimes (including this morning at breakfast) Riley forgets to eat while watching Mia!
We sang songs, read lots of books, and then as soon as I turned on some music the girls started clearing toys away from the 'dance floor.' Before anyone else arrived Mia had some toys all neatly lined up - cars and then the plates on the table. I don't think I've seen her do that before.

Mia ate oatmeal and dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate hash brown casserole, biscuit, and mandarin oranges.
I swear Cooper and Mia are two peas from the same pod! We can build with the blocks and those two can hardly wait to get the green light to rip it all apart! Riley and Nora will move on to something else and these two go nuts! This morning Cooper was standing on his head like this several different times while they were in the middle of their demolition projects!
Cooper and Mia were at the window watching the crows in the yard and in the street. Most of them flew away by the time I got the camera ready, but you can see one in the street. The kids were also looking at one over to the right that was out of the picture.
Mia was snuggling with Lauralea this morning while I was finishing the meals for today and Lauralea was singing to her. Mia had this dreamy look on her face and kept saying, "Sing more song!"
Mia was sitting on the chair when Nora was telling her Daddy bye and she pointed to the window as if to say to Nora; "Ok, go to the window now and wave bye to him!" (The same routine every morning.)
She was also looking through these little viewfinder toys (whatever they are called) and identifying most of the animals. Except she was calling the squirrel a "horsey!" :) It was a close-up picture and there was no way of her getting a 'size perspective.' Anyhow, that made me laugh! I told that putting a saddle on a squirrel would never work!

Mia ate two servings of breakfast: french bread and cantaloupe. For lunch she ate turkey slices, crescent roll, green beans, and three servings of dried mangoes.
Nora and Mia were playing "Row Row" and having a blast! There's nothing better in the world than kids laughing and having fun!
I'd just announced, "Ok everybody, help me find Cooper's binky!" And this is what it looked like! It always makes me laugh because all three look in the exact same spot. Uhhh, we could spread out a little and cover the whole room! Riley found the binky a few minutes later laying in the middle of the room!
Mia and Nora were playing by the color chart and this time Mia was the "teacher." She was saying, "Show me red!" (While doing the sign for red.) Nora showed her. (Attention to detail is her strength.) I was enjoying watching this for several reasons. Primarily because Mia doesn't know her colors yet, but her strength is her language skills. She easily gave great instructions, but couldn't "show me red" when I asked. (Pointed to purple.) :)
Speaking of language skills; Mia invited Nora to join her in play several times this morning. Mia was the one who initiated "Row Row" and then wanted Nora to help her build a "Cooper cave, Cooper cave!" (Riley started calling it that and Mia picked right up on it.) Then Mia was sitting on my lap saying, "Walk walk…" It's a 'walk walk, trot trot, gallop gallop" game we do.

Mia ate two servings of whole wheat toast and ate mixed berries for breakfast. Riley was having a hard time eating breakfast because she was too busy watching Mia eat her berries! "Oh oh, oh oh!" It's ok Riley - it will all wash off! :) It is quite impressive with that berry juice all around her mouth! For lunch Mia ate half of her ham, ate crackers, bean & bacon soup, and kiwi.
Mia was exploring under the legos table where Cooper likes to hang out. This picture makes it look like she was "resting," but she's actually just crawling through! (With her doll and doll blanket.) Shortly after this picture was taken Cooper was climbing through the legos table, but Mia was already under the end of the table when he arrived. (Right where she's at in the picture.) And there is only room for one person in there! Geez, the table just about came up off the floor with those two trying to get out at the same time! :)
Mia (and Nora too) still accompanies Riley to the potty each time she goes. Mia sat on the toilet yesterday and this morning, but so far nothing has happened. :) But she sat there for a minute both times, which I think is progress; before it up there and instantly "I'm done!"
Mia and Mommy were having a major discussion on the phone this morning! She had her phone and said, "Hi Momma; Hi Darcy!" (Which cracked me up!) "Jabber jabber jabber, Momma, jabber jabber.." And on it went! :)
We sang songs, built a 'sidewalk' with the blocks, did painting at art, and read lots of books. She painted for a few minutes and as soon as she started to get bored with it she began 'massaging' the foam brush she was using. Ok, you're done! :)

Mia ate two servings of whole wheat bagel and ate dried apricots for breakfast. For lunch she ate chicken, two servings of elbow noodles topped with shredded cheese, ate peas, and applesauce.
Before anyone else arrived Mia was playing with the building blocks. I thought she did good getting these all stacked up! And Cooper wasn't around to push them over.
Riley and Nora seemed to find Mia entertaining at the lunch table. The meal was a bit messy and Mia had a mixture of applesauce, noodles, and shredded cheese on her face. I said to Riley; "Look at Mias' mouth!" Well Mia had her own interpretation of that statement and promptly opened her mouth for all to see. :) (And of course there was food in her mouth!) Riley started laughing and Nora followed. (They both sit across the table from Mia.) It was quite hilarious! :)
Mia will just randomly say, "Hi Cooper!" (She does that to the other kids and myself as well.) Anyhow, this morning she said, "Hi Cooper!" and burped at the same time. It was quite impressive. Don't let that girl get away Cooper; I think she's a "Keeper!" :)
I love Mia's language and how it's developing! Here's an example from this morning; The neighbor girl has two friends that walk to her house each morning and the three of them walk on to school together. We frequently watch them and today Mia saw them coming. She said, "Here come the friends!" :)
Lauralea was reading a book to Mia this morning. And it said something about a "frown." Lauralea said, "Show me a frown!" Mia jumped down and headed to the color chart to find the color "brown!" That made me laugh! I always use that phrase when we practice the color signs! I do the sign, point at the chart, and then say, "Show me the …."

Mia ate bran cereal and most of her dried cranberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate most of her cheese pizza, ate corn, and tropical fruit.
I thought this was soooo cute!! The three girls were discussing colors and Nora was pointing to them. She looks like the little teacher with her students. :) And Riley and Mia are both intently watching and listening. Love this picture!
Mia was playing peek-a-boo with Cooper. She was still in the lunch room after breakfast and he was peeking through the gate. He'd whirl around and dive on the mattress and she'd run across the room over by the dryer where he couldn't see her. They were laughing and having so much fun.
Mia was sure proud of her painted nails. I don't know how many times this morning she had to show me her nails. "Look, my nails!" Every time I'd say, "That was nice of Daddy!" And every time she'd say, "Mommy do it!" :)
Mia is almost always the first one here in the morning and we frequently spend several minutes snuggling and talking in the big chair. Not today; by 8:15 it looked like a mini cyclone went through the daycare room. :) She had stuff scattered everywhere and she unloaded all the books from the bookrack into the big box. Then she climbed in there and sat on the pile of books and started reading.
Mia crawled under the climber and got her head stuck under one of the yellow pieces. She put her head in "sideways," and then turned her head "face-down" and tried to pull back out. "Stuck!" And instant panic and yelling! I helped her and then she was pointing at it and explaining to Riley what had just happened! :)

Mia ate half of her malt-o-meal cereal and ate raisins for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground beef with spaghetti sauce, two servings of elbow noodles topped with shredded cheese, lettuce salad, and three servings of mixed fruit.
I was cleaning up after breakfast and the girls were being so quiet! Kind of scary, right? :) This is how they were playing when I peeked in on them. How cute is this? There are several cell phones, but they were focused on the one Nora is playing with. If you look close, you will see they have my three pillows; two on the yellow bench and Nora is sitting on one. Doesn't this picture makes Mia look so much bigger than Riley? It's more the way they are sitting and her being closer to the camera. She is bigger than Riley, but they are fairly close to the same height. I have to remind myself that Mia is the youngest of these three girls.
Nora and Mia were sitting on the yellow bench while Riley was leading them in some songs we've been practicing for a short Christmas video. Riley said, "Ho ho" (and doing the motions to "Where is Santa") and Mia says, "Merry Christmas!" They are getting it! It was super cute! However, there are no guarantees anyone will cooperate when we actually try to video! :) Later, when we were singing, Mia acted like she'd never heard the songs! :)
This morning before Lauralea left Mia was sitting on the arm of the chair and Lauralea was in the chair. Mia sneezed and I asked, "Did you sneeze all over?!" Mia said, "No! On Lauralea!" (True statement!) And then she points to a spot on Lauralea's face! Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard I forgot to have her say "excuse me" or "sorry" to Lauraela! :)

Mia ate most of her raisin english muffin and ate blueberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate chicken, crackers, sweet potatoes, and three servings of canned cherries. I'm thinking she may have the blowout after she leaves daycare! :) Riley was watching Mia dip her cracker in cherry juice at lunch. "Oh oh, Oh oh!" :)
Also at lunch time; Nora somehow slipped off the table bench and landed on her butt and somewhat on her back. I'm sure I was holding my breath because that's not a soft landing. She got up, looked at Mia and Riley and started laughing! Soon they were all laughing like it was the funniest thing ever! :)
This picture was taken yesterday afternoon and the kids were having a blast on the slides. They were sitting on the bottom of the slide and waiting for the next person to arrive. Over and over again. After Riley got tired of this game Mia and Nora kept right on playing for several more minutes.
We were playing with some paper towel tubes and using them for microphones. Riley started using them as a telescope and Mia joined her!
We watched some crows in the yard again, the kids colored on some coffee filters and we sprayed water on the finished picture, and they had fun jumping and running on the mattress. Mia was mimicking everything Riley was doing and they were spinning and darting around like a couple of crazy girls. Then Mia and Nora were taking turns sitting on Riley's lap.

Mia ate two servings of biscuits and ate peaches for breakfast. For lunch she ate baked beans, bites of dinner roll, ate peas, and pineapple.
The title of this picture is "Hello Momma!" That's what she always says when she grabs a phone. She also played with the fanny packs and carried her phone in there too.
Mia went over to visit with Cooper and this is how they greet each other. He loves Mia and she loves him too! She's always doing something to entertain him and he loves it!
Before breakfast Mia handed Cooper her binky. I don't know what she was expecting, but she wasn't thrilled when he grabbed it, stuck it in his mouth, and ran in the opposite direction! :) Shortly after that she handed her binky to Lauralea to put in her cubby and was mumbling something about Cooper!
Mia was sitting beside Riley on the step in front of the window and Riley was bent over she was coughing so hard. Mia mimicked her and bent way over doing some fake coughing. :) Mia was also alerting me to Riley's runny nose. "Riley nose Gary, Riley nose!!"
We sang songs, read stories, did golf ball painting, some sign language, and watched some crows (about a dozen) that landed in the road and driveway outside the big window.

11/12/2013
Mia ate two servings of waffle and ate hash browns for breakfast. So here's what happened after you left her at lunch time Darcy. She had a hard time calming down and so she relaxed in the big green chair (not crying at all) and twice I told her could join us when she was ready. She ended up not wanting to eat and she went right to sleep at nap time. So I just wrapped her plate of food and I'll offer it to her at snack time when she wakes up. (Rather than just a snack.)
I just wanted to mention something about food serving size. If you google serving sizes for Toddlers you can get different recommended or required servings sizes. And then the Federal Food Program (which I participate in) has it's required serving sizes. They range everywhere from a Tablespoon for every 1 year of age to quarter cups, etc… My servings sizes tend to be a little larger, so if I say they ate half a serving, they are getting plenty of food.
Speaking of food, I asked Mia this morning, "What's your favorite food?" Her answer; "Dinner!" Which made me laugh of course. I also chose not to be offended considering Dinner is the only meal I don't fix for her Monday - Friday! :)
Here's another picture of the girls reading. Riley was reading to them and just 'flying' through the books. (There's a pile of discarded books at her feet that I should have included in the picture.) She'd open the book, "mumble mumble mumble," toss the book on the floor, ask the other two, "want another book?" and sit there while one of them fetched another book. And that repeated itself several times. Very cute.
I laughed yesterday after nap time when Lauralea came out to the daycare room with us. She'd been downstairs working on filing papers on her day off. Mia, having just woke from her nap, assumed Lauralea had been napping too! She saw Lauralea and said, "You wake up Lauralea!?!" :)
Mia was kind of whining this morning saying, "Want phone, want phone…" She was literally standing between two phones. One was on the floor and one was on the table. So I was thinking how totally aware they are at times and other times so oblivious! Later….I'm standing in the lunch room looking for my notes and aloud I say, "Where are they!?" They happened to be right at my elbow! And the first thought I had was of Mia and the phones! :)

Mia ate cheerios and banana for breakfast. For lunch she ate cheese sandwich, drank tomato soup, and ate apple pieces.
We did a toy, book, and puzzle exchange this weekend and Mia had fun with all the new stuff. Here's a picture of her putting on some dress-up clothes. It's a full-length lion suit, but she never leaves them on for more than a few seconds so I just helped her get her arms in. And, sure enough, it came off as soon as she got this shoe on! :) Our busy little Mia girl!
The kid's journals are going to be a bit shorter today from a lack of notes and here's the story: Last night the ignition key broke off in the ignition of our car in the Costco parking lot. So I had to meet the tow truck out there this morning and go to the Nissan dealership. So we were glad Lauralea doesn't have to work today and she could cover for me. But I did not get nearly as many notes as usual to write about the kids.
I (we) enjoyed meeting several more members of Mia's family at the birthday party. It's always so special to meet the family of our daycare kids! Also, everyone expressed so much appreciation of Mia's daily blog. It makes it feel so worthwhile and I love that her family can get a little glimpse of Mia's life here at daycare!
As usual she was very busy this morning and also followed Riley around frequently mimicking lots of Riley's play. That's how they learn; observing and then experimenting!

Mia ate oatmeal and dried cranberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground beef, elbow noodles, peas, and applesauce.
The kids are always very intrigued with me flossing my teeth after our meals. So I gave them each a piece of floss and grabbed the camera. :) Everything is a photo-opportunity! Riley saw me grab the camera and she wanted no part of it. Little skunk!
All three girls were in the box and Cooper started pitching toys and books into the box and they were slinging them back out. It was a game for Cooper and Mia and Riley found it quite humorous; Nora not so much! :)
Mia started doing the "Cooper Cave!" thing again. I think it's interesting how they'll do something like that and it lasts for a day or two, maybe more, and then it's forgotten and never played again.
We played outside this morning and they ran around the yard pushing the dump trucks and picking up leaves. They also drummed on the sand table and ran up and down the fence with the neighbor's dog.
We were at the window watching our neighbor Big Willy stand outside watching his wife rake leaves. So I had to step to the door and ask him if she was doing it right! :)

Mia ate raisin english muffin and blueberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate the meat from the turkey sandwich (and bites of bread), ate green beans, and kiwi.
Mia was watching Cooper play with the blocks and I liked how she had her hands on her hips. By the time I got the camera she was no longer doing it. So I asked her if she'd do it again and she did! :) And this is pretty much how it looked! Thank you Mia!
Riley has been such a good friend to Mia and Mia totally loves her! Riley lets Mia join her in most of her activities. This morning Riley decided to play with the building blocks again and said, "Cooper cave!" (That's the code phrase now when she wants to build!) Mia starts yelling, "Cooper cave, Cooper cave!!" Then I took this picture of them in the big chair with their babies. A couple minutes after I took this picture Mia put her arm around Riley's head. Riley moved Mia's arm and looked at her as if to say; "No, that's too much; don't push your luck!" :)
During story time we were reading "Ten Little Speckled Frogs" and one of the repeating lines on every page goes like this, "sitting on a speckled log eating the most delicious lunch, Yum Yum." I was pausing when I got to the "yum yum" part and letting them 'fill in the blank.' Pretty soon they (all three girls) were anticipating it and trying to see who could say it first and the loudest; "YUM YUM!!" And they were 'jumping the gun' before I even paused! :)
Mia was playing with the dolls again and had her baby wrapped up and put it to bed. This time the "bed" was in the big box. Then she was playing over by the sinks. All of a sudden she runs over to the big box, leans over to her baby and said, "Baby! Shhhhh Baby!!" And goes back to work at the sink! Oh man, I laughed! It was soooo cute and funny! Geez, I wonder if she's heard that before?! I know she has here!!

Mia ate half of her whole wheat toast and ate dried mangoes for breakfast. For lunch she ate beef & bean burrito, ate sweet potatoes, and two servings of tropical fruit.
Yesterday and today they've been using these toys shelves for their beds. First thing this morning Nora comes in and says, "Ah night night!" And started clearing off the toys for them to sleep. I call it their bunk beds. (Cooper was trying to put the toys back on the shelf as fast as Nora could remove them! And Nora was yelling "Bubba, Bubba!")
Nora read books with Mia and played with the food toys. Mia was sitting by a pile of books and when Nora walked by Mia said, "Sit down? Sit down?" And it was a question rather than a demand! They also played with their "babies" and were bringing them to me to kiss "night night." At first I wasn't sure what they wanted because Nora was just doing a kissing sound, but Mia knew and said, "Kiss night night?" :)
Riley initiated food play with Mia and was offering Mia "bites" of her cake. Well Mia was all over that! Mia immediately started saying things like; "Eat Riley cake! Hi Riley, hi Riley! "Bite Riley, bite!" (This was all happening on the floor.) Riley finally moved her cake to the table and Mia followed with her own cake pieces and continued begging Riley for more! Riley finally had enough, pointed at Mia's cake pieces, and said; "Right there!!" It was all quite entertaining! :)
I am frequently 'drumming' on something; usually with my pen. Lauralea says that I do it all the time!! Which I'm sure is an exaggeration! :) Well, this morning Mia had the ice cream scoop and was drumming; going from the changing table to the sinks, toy shelves, table, and anything she could find! Lauralea will find that highly entertaining when I tell her about Mia drumming!

Mia ate two servings of cinnamon roll and ate dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate the scrambled eggs, hash brown, ham combo, ate her waffle, and cantaloupe.
Mia was watching Cooper eat, saw the mess he was making and said; "Oh Oh!" Now this coming from Little Miss Dainty herself! That's a classic case of the Pot calling the Kettle black!! At meal times they look like twins that graduated from the same school of Fine Eating Etiquette! :)
Mia had a spoon and ice cream cone and was "feeding" everyone again. Cooper decided he would give it a try and Mia decided it wasn't nearly as much fun when he kept poking the spoon in the general direction of her mouth. :)
Cooper was sitting in the igloo and Mia and Riley were going to the entrance yelling, "Boo!" And of course he was loving it, sitting in there giggling. Then Cooper was pestering Mia and she whined at him. He reached up, took her binky, whirled around and left! :) But I think she still loves him!
Riley was sitting on Lauralea's lap this morning and Lauralea was playing a game with her that we do; bouncing the child up and down and starting off with "walk walk walk"... increase bouncing intensity... "trot trot trot"… increase bouncing intensity… "gallop gallop gallop!" It was about 11:00 - three hours later - and Mia was on the chair with a doll on her lap doing the same thing; "walk walk walk…trot trot trot" That was soooo cute. She'd been intently watching the whole thing this morning. I love it when they start talking and you can hear what is going through their heads! :)

Mia ate kix cereal and half of her mixed fruit for breakfast. For lunch she ate ham sandwich, peas, and two servings of mandarin oranges.
This is just a picture of all four kids playing in the same area with the same toys. Nora was stacking them, Mia was walking across them, and Riley was keeping an eye on Cooper!
Mia was sitting on the floor being silly with her legs and arms. She was trying to get Riley to watch her and said, "Look Riley!" Riley wasn't too impressed so Mia moved on to Cooper; "Look Cooper! Look!" And Cooper started laughing at her! :) That was the desired response!!
We were getting ready for story time and the big chair was LOADED with toys. I was moving them and I asked, "I wonder who did this?" Riley gave her standard answer; "Mia!" I guess Riley knows that's usually a safe bet. :)
Mia was identifying animals this morning and I had to show her a Hippopotamus of course! She always gives it a good try! "Hippo-pot-is!" Good job Mia! Love her language skills!
She was into "feeding" everyone this morning, using a spoon and dipping the spoon into her ice cream cone. Everyone was cooperating with her too! Nora was even doing the "Thank You" sign after every bite. All things considered; time change, Monday morning, etc… it was an awesome morning! :)

Mia ate brown rice and raisins for breakfast. For lunch she ate meatloaf, half of her french bread, ate carrots, and dried apricots.
Mia and Riley joined Nora and it's not too often that the three girls are dancing together side-by-side like this in front of a mirror. Cooper was already hanging out there dancing with Nora! :) I just noticed in the picture Mia's pants are hanging pretty low in the back! Sorry! I pulled them up several times this morning, but a photo opportunity happens very quickly around here! :)
Another reminder: Mia will need diapers on Monday.
This was one of those "you had to be there and see it to appreciate it," but here's what it looked like: Mia had a doll blanket and Cooper was grabbing it out of her hands. Between Cooper and Mia, on the floor, was Nora laying with her doll "baby." (You already know how this is going to end!?) Cooper grabs the blanket, Mia jerks back even stronger, and launches Cooper forward, and he trips over and lands on Nora. And from there everything went downhill! :) It was a rough sequence of events for all involved!
Mia was going to crawl under the table and this time she decided to go between the table top and the bench. (There is plenty of room, but she would need to turn her head a bit sideways.) Anyhow, she kind of got hung-up and she was sure she was "caught!" She yelled "stuck!" a couple of times and panicked a little. That table almost got up and took off running! :) When she got out she looked at me like; "Whewww! That was close!!"
First thing this morning she was watching Lauralea fold her clothes and she asked, "Is that queen?!" (Clean!) Very cute! :)
Nora was waving and saying, "Bye, bye, bye…!" I asked, "Where are you going?" Nora jabbered and then Mia gave her interpretation! "Mommy, Daddy, Cooper!" I said, "Well, thank you Mia; except that is Who, not Where!" :)
